Zoom Speaker - Ken Scott ARPS, MBPsS “Summits and Secrets”

Ken Scott ARPS, MBPsS

I’m Ken Scott, photographer, adventurer, speaker, and coach from Sussex, England.

My photography is probably still best known for my work with mountain landscape and light, which spans over forty years of walking and mountaineering in Britain, and overseas in Corsica, the Pyrenees, Alps and North America. My most recent mountain adventures include a crossing of the Pyrenees High Route (HRP) in 2011 and in 2017 a solo walk around the coast of Britain with camera – Coast17.

In recent times my photographic repertoire has expanded to include a diversity of styles from intimate nature to abstract art, which have emerged from the discipline of daily practice. 2024 will see completion of my 17th consecutive year – 6210 days – of a “365 Project”, now “Project Infinity”, making a picture every day since 1st January 2008.

I regularly give photographic talks and presentations to camera clubs and outdoor organisations throughout the UK, and for many years I have been a judge and appraiser on the camera club circuit, influential in the training and development of judging practice.

Finally I am proud to be an Honorary Lifetime Member and currently Hon. President of Steyning Camera Club in West Sussex.

Alan Walker MPAGB ARPS MPSA EFIAP ABPE

I have been an enthusiastic photographer for most of my adult life, starting, as many people did, with film and producing prints and slides through the magical darkroom process. Digital imaging brought a whole new world and I wanted to embrace it fully with my photography by producing both digital images and fine art prints. The range of papers now available take digital printing to a whole new exciting level, in both colour and monochrome.

I juggled my photography with a career for almost 40 years, but now having retired I have the time to explore a variety of photographic pursuits and techniques, many of which are shown in my galleries. As you will see my work could be described as 'somewhat diverse' or 'lacking a common theme' but I find the opportunities for photographic subjects too varied and exciting to be constrained by one or two subjects.

I became interested in wildlife as a teenager whilst watching David Attenborough’s wildlife programmes and I fell in love with photography following a holiday to The Gambia in the early 90s photographing weaver birds, mudskippers & mammals. I became an active member of the local camera club (Wigan Photographic Society) and enjoyed much success winning awards in the club along with several national and international awards. I was a member of Blackburn Camera Club for 7 years and a member of the prestigious Wigan 10 Foto-Club for 4 years helping them receive the FIAP Gold Medal for finishing 2nd best club in the world in the FIAP World Cup and winning the Maurice Dorikens Trophy for the most consistent club in the world three times. During that time, my images helped the club win the PAGB PDI Championship, the PAGB Print Championship, the L&CPU Annual Print Exhibition and other events

Barbie Lindsay MPAGB EFIAP/s FBPE AWPF

Barbie is a photographic obsessive. She lives and thrives on the photographic medium. Her world is seen through the eye of the lens and her life totally revolves around her love of photography.

Born in Ipswich, acquired her first camera at the age of 11. She had always hankered after a career as an artist, but never fulfilled this dream. Instead turned her artistic talent to photography in 1982. Now working in the print lab of a large schools photography company, despite hating kids.

Her love of photography has developed over the years. She lectures across the country, judges nationally, as well as participating in international exhibitions. Was appointed a PAGB judge in 2005.

Her biggest achievement to date must be, being part of the Gold medal winning team, representing Britain in the worldwide FIAP biennial print competition. In the same competition she also won an individual silver medal. She has had numerous photographs published in books and newspapers, including one image used as a phone card for BT.

Barbie asked us to pick 7-8 topics from a list of about 30 that she gave me, and we plumped for the following:

  • A quick trip around London at Night.

  • Drone Photography.

  • Insects.

  • People of Character.

  • Sporting Action.

  • Straight out of Camera Creative.

  • Street Photography.

Malcom Hupman - Where I Photograph British Wildlife

This is Malcolm’s most popular talk and shows a broad range of wildlife subjects and where they might be found. It is suitable for both experienced and novice photographers. For those new to wildlife photography, location, time of year and the weather will all influence what you are likely to see. So, as well as the location, equipment and settings I have included the date taken on each image.

Guy Edwardes - Creative macro photography

I have been a professional landscape, nature and travel photographer for over twenty-five years. My work has been published worldwide with clients that include: Canon, Amateur Photographer, Outdoor Photography, Photo Plus, Dorset Life, Archant Life publications, Telegraph, Guardian, The Reader's Digest, AA Publishing, The Ordnance Survey and many card and calendar publishers around the world. I have published two successful books on photography technique.

Although my main interest is photographing the wildlife and wild places of the British Isles, I also make many overseas trips each year. Wherever I am working I try to capture subjects in new ways, often working on new techniques in order to produce a unique image. Living in South West England I have a variety of beautiful landscapes and interesting habitats right on my doorstep and many of my most successful images have been taken within a few miles of my home.
