Frome Showground, Frome - 14th to 19th October 2010
The last meet of 2010 turned out to be a great success though it was fraught
with bogies that came out of the woodwork occasionally, like the electricity
going off on the coldest morning, a speaker not turning up without informing the
stewards that he was ill and couldn't make it. All praise to the stewards for
keeping things moving and to Geoff Morgan who stood in instantly to give us an
evenings entertainment with his digital images.
Saturday evening was end of season dinner time and some 45 members attended the
'White Hart' public house in Truxdoxhill near Frome for the meal, which was
enjoyed by all.
Sunday evening was an evening north of the Arctic Circle with Pam and Eddy Lane,
who gave a presentation entitled 'Kingdom of the Polar Bears' which took us from
Longyearben, Spitzbergen around the islands of Svalbard filming and
photographing polar bears, walrus, seals and sea birds on the ice floes of the
summer. Sunday also saw the Francis Spooner Petanque tournament. Fourteen
couples took part, the final taking place on Monday. the winners were James
Rawson and Doug Sweet, who received the Francis Spooner Cup.
Monday evening in Truxdoxhill village hall was a presentation by Francis of his
photography around New Zealand, Singapore and Chine. Members showed their images
taken over the weekend. The results of the competitions were announced and
deserving winners Debbie Sweet and Ann Brothwell won signed copies of Francis's
framed panorama photographs. Instead of a raffle it was guess the number of
sweets in the tin and the number of those with a specific coloured wrapper. This
successful venture was won by Paul Mellor and Sue Tawn.
Many thanks to the hardworking stewards for their organisation, to the
showground management and not least to the members who made the meet a success.
28 units attended this last meet, the majority being motorhomes.
A happy winter season to you all. See you in the new camping year 2011.
