Three Way Battle
This year the Photogroup challenged Southport and Wigan
Photographic Societies to the print and DPI battle.
Our selectors Keith Hughes,
Jeff Morgan and Francis Spooner (digital) and Michael and Rosemary Mutimer and
Jim Price (prints)
had a an extremely difficult job choosing 10 for each section
from 180 digital and 130 prints.
I started to climb a very steep learning curve
to find out how to run a new competition programme for digital projection,
with
a lot of help from Jim Price and Paul Leighton. Thank you to both for your
patience.
With everything in place, tension mounted on Saturday evening
as our visitors and judge, Colin Douglas arrived.
Prints were appraised first
and finished with a tie between Southport and Wigan. Photogroup lagged behind.
Following the break, when everyone had a chance to view the prints proceedings
resumed, after some technical problems with the projector were overcome.
Excitement mounted as the judge marked the DPI's and we realised that Photogroup
were picking up marks.
We comfortably won this section and eventually, when the
scores were combined, has finished in second place.
Once again we showed what a high standard of photography there
is within the group.
Thank you to everyone who made the evening such a success and
to all of you who brought images along, even if they were not selected.
