Festival of Photography, Scaisbrick, Lancashire -
21st to 26th May 2009
Although we arrived in sunshine, the rain the previous night
and the week before had softened the green bits in the field and with the
restrictions as to where we could place units it was decided to keep the
motorhomes on the car park.
The meet was well attended with 39 units attending including
23 motorhomes and one tent. The quizzes set by the stewards kept us entertained,
how good are you on collective nouns, (we gave a choice of answers). What about
phobias? Easy yes! What is Photo phobia? We all should know this one.
Although the weather on Friday was a bit iffy, it did not stop
members doing their thing and the day finished in the village hall looking at
the selection of prints and DPI for the 3-way battle on Saturday.
Saturday was a full day after morning coffee in the hall.
there was a selection of workshops and a 'Lightroom' demo from Jim Price,
@Memory Books' by Fred Price, print mounting by David Harrison, introduction to
print folios by Keith Hughes, Sylvia Hughes ran a craft workshop producing peg
dolls and gift boxes by the ladies. Helen and Rodney had hoped to run one on
Cyanotype photograms but technical difficulties plus lack of sunshine on
Saturday made it a workshop for another time.
Afternoon was taken up with the AGM and the evening with a
3-way battle against Southport PS, Wigan PS and ourselves. Despite being 3rd
place din the prints we pulled it back in the DPI and finished second behind
Wigan. The judge was given a hard time because of the excellent quality of
entries from all clubs and it was a first rate evening enjoyed by all. Thanks to
all members who contributed to the raffle which raised £85 for club funds.
Sunday - the sun was out all day and members voted on the
inter-group prints and postcard entries. The quality of the postcard entry was
excellent and improves each year. The evening was completed by Rodney, and Helen
Smith as Aide Memoir, his talk on 'From Darkroom to Digital' and we had a feast
of prints covering a wide range of subjects.
Monday started as Sunday has finished in glorious sunshine and
looked set for the day but gradually clouded over after lunch. In the evening we
enjoyed members AV slides and a surfeit of 'Duck' images taken over the weekend
(not Donald's friends). After strong winds and rain overnight the day started
bright and the ground was firm enough to get units off without any assistance.
My thanks go to Paul and Ann, my joint stewards and other members who helped
with all the activities to make it a 'Festival of Photography' to remember.
